SILENTIUM PRO VITA — “SILENCE FOR LIFE”

This special edition pays tribute to the “Radio Room” watches and clocks (also known as “RR” or “RRO”) used by maritime radio operators in the early 20th century, when precise timing was a matter of survival at sea. Their history began after the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912, when nearby ships failed to receive distress calls because radio operators were off duty or radio frequencies were congested with routine transmissions.

In response, the United States passed the Radio Act of 1912 (Act to Regulate Radio Communication), followed by similar international regulations that introduced mandatory 24/7 radio watch and designated “radio silence” periods. During these intervals, all non-emergency communication had to cease so that operators could listen exclusively for distress signals on the international emergency frequency of 500 kHz, with 2182 kHz added as a second distress frequency from 1947. These strict timing intervals became the defining visual signature of Radio Room watches and clocks.

The Radio Room Special Edition transforms this historic function into a modern maritime instrument. Its textured navy-blue dial features four highlighted three-minute sectors positioned at 15-minute intervals — reflecting the mandatory radio silence periods. Housed in a classic diver-style case, the watch features a 48-click unidirectional bezel with a ceramic ring and 24-hour scale. The automatic GMT movement allows tracking of multiple time zones, while the sapphire crystal and 20 BAR water resistance ensure reliable protection in demanding sea conditions.

This timepiece combines authentic nautical heritage with modern horological engineering, creating a functional historical instrument for modern sea explorers.
